Adana is one of the most beautiful cities of the Mediterranean, is especially known for its rich culinary tradition. Founded 4,000 years ago, by the Hittite civilization, the fifth largest city in Turkey spoils visitors with a variety cultural and historic worthy of being discovered.
The city is located in the heart of Cukurova Plain, south of the Taurus Mountains on the River Seyhan, giving it a leading position among agricultural regions of the country. Precious river is surrounded by stone wall (Taskopru) of Hadrian.
Among the many attractions of Adana include Great Mosque (Ulu Camii), starting in the sixteenth century by Halil Bey Ramazanoglu and completed by his son Piri Mehmet Pasa, 1541.
For 450 years, this was the largest mosque of Adana. The building is an impressive monument of medieval architecture, wearing signs styles Mamluk, Ottoman and slegiuc.
Near the mosque, there is Ramazanoglu mansion, the old capital of the dynasty of Ramadan, which today serves as a cultural center.
It is one of the oldest mansions in Turkey, serving in the past as Ramadan harem family villas resembling Mamluks of Egypt.
Another historic mosque is Yag Camii ("oil Mosque"), built in 1501 by the same Ramazanoglu Halil Bey, the oldest site of a mosque.
The building was originally called "Eski Mosque" ("old mosque"), and later renamed because of oil bazaar organized nearby.
Halil Bey's son Ramazanoglu to consummate construction in 1525, adding a minaret.
And nearby Adana offers entertainment galore, such as the beach Karatas or fishing town Ymurtalik, Roman ruins on the road to Iskender city Misis, located on the ancient trade route that linked China, India and Europe, and the natural park Karatepe, a veritable museum open air.
