History:
In the Ottoman period there was a small town called Rumcamlisi, and the inhabitants of Rumcamlisi fled to Samos on September 7, 1922. Until the population change in 1924, the city had no one around. Later, Turkish immigrants from the Eleftheres village of Kavala were brought here. Guzelcamli village became a municipality in 1992. In ancient times, the Guzelcamli region was known as a sacred place where people gathered for meetings and rituals in the Halikonios Poseidon Altar, where the political center of 12 Ionian cities (Panionion League) is located. The altar, which is like a small theater on the Mykale Mountains, was excavated in 1957-1958 by Gerhard Kleiner. In this way, the region is the symbolic capital of the Ionian Confederation. In the Guzecamli region one of the most important wars between the Persian Empire and the Panionion League took place. The war took place around the Dilek Peninsula and was called the Mykale War in 479 BC. and the Persian fleet was completely burned down. After this war, the Panionion League was expanded and became a true military alliance by covering the ancient Greek cities, being called the Attik-Delos Union.
