Kahramanmaraş is a city in southern Turkey (Mediterranean) and the administrative center of the province of Kahramanmaraş.
he city lies on a plain at the foot Ahir Dagi (Mount Ahir) and has a population of 575,000 as of 2013.
The region is best known for its production of salep, flour made from dried orchid tubers, and its distinctive ice cream. It is connected by air to Istanbul and Ankara.

Kahramanmaraş is 549 meters above sea level in the western foothills of the Taurus Mountains, at the edge of a fertile plain on the southern slope of Ahirdağ, near the southern port of three important passes.
Region is mountainous and has rich mineral deposits, primarily iron and silver. 20 km east dam is Ayvalı.
