Avanos is a town and district of Nevşehir Province in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey, located 18 km (11 km) north of Nevşehir, the provincial capital. It is located in the historic and touristic Cappadocia. The district covers an area of 994 km2, and the average altitude is 920 m, with the highest point being Mt İsmail Sivrisi to 1,756 m.
